So, you may be asking yourself, "what is belle laide?"
Answer: a french word meaning beautiful ugly. No such word exists in English, however I strongly believe that often it is the flaws that makes something truly beautiful.
I'm not sure how true it is, but I've heard that the term came about to describe French actor Jean-Paul Belmondo (but in his case it would be "beau laid.") If you watch Jean-Luc Godard's Breathless you will understand. He is so strange looking that it's impossible to stop looking at him, and it's that intrigue that draws you in in a way that typical beauty doesn't.
